Life at UUM

We live in students' hostel in UUM with room mates.
UUM has a huge campus. We move around campus by bus and car. Some students have motor bikes. Also, there are lots of green and some animals such as cows and monkeys!
In the campus, students are trying various activities.
We eat in hostel's cafe and restaurants in campus.
At night, around some hostels we have 'night cafe'. We can drink traditional malaysian beverages there.

We conduct workshops in each students' hostel in UUM and schools near UUM.
We inform participants of information about HIV/AIDS. We use some games related to the topic because we believe that they help participants to remember the information and our messages strongly.
One more important strategy is to divide participants into girls section and boys section. We think that our topic is sensitive, so participants can participate and speak more actively when they are only with same gender. So far this strategy is working well.
We uploaded the slides which we use in boys sections. Please have a look.
Brief information about HIV
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
- Is a virus which slowly destroys the immune system, the part of your body that fights illnesses. So your body is likely to be infected by diseases easier.
AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome)
- Is the word used to describe the situation of poor health and illness that a HIV positive person gets when the immune system becomes very weak, because of HIV
QQR – To examine how HIV is spread
- Quality: How good is the quality of HIV?
- Quantity: Is there many HIV in the certain fluid?
- Route: In which way does the virus enter the body?
HIV gets transmitted through:
- Blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk
HIV enters the bloodstream through:
- -open cuts, breaks in the skin, mucous membrane, direct injection
Test
- Only way to know HIV status
- Can do test at STI clinics, TB clinics, private primary healthcare hospital and clinics
Window Period
- The window period is the length of time after infection that it takes for a person to develop enough specific antibodies that fight the HI Virus. When enough antibodies are developed, the HIV antibody test will come back positive. Each person's body responds to HIV infection a little differently, so the window period varies slightly from person to person. It can take between 3-6 month. HIV is most commonly diagnosed in adolescents and adults through HIV antibody testing.
Protection:
A - Abstain from sex (do not have sex)
B - Be faithful to you and your partner (one partner at one time)
C – Use a condom

We are three interns from different countries. Sometimes we clash each other because we all have different opinions. However, we are cooperating each other to make our project good.
On holidays, we can go on a trip. On last holidays, we went to Langkawi island together. We had a good time there.
